Aftercare & Skin SUpport

After your appointment, your skin needs time to rest and recover.

For the first 24 hours, avoid activities that cause excessive sweating or friction. Do not exfoliate or apply lotions, oils, or serums. Skip saunas, steam rooms, swimming, soaking, and sun exposure during this time. Wear loose, breathable clothing, keep the area clean, and allow the skin to relax.

After 24-48 hours, once the skin has settled, gentle exfoliation helps prevent ingrowns and supports smooth regrowth. Both physical and chemical exfoliation can be effective, depending on your skin's needs.

Physical exfoliation is manually scrubbing dead skin cells off your skin's surface using tools like mitts, brushes, or scrubs and is best for individuals with oily, or resilient skin who are looking for immediate results in smoothing uneven texture or addressing rough patches.

Chemical exfoliation uses ingredients such as AHAs or BHAs to gently dissolve buildup, allowing them to shed easily and is often better suited for sensitive skin. AHAs are water-soluble acids and work on the surface of the skin. They are especially helpful for dry and/or flaky skin, rough texture, or shallow ingrowns. BHAs are oil-soluble, which allows them to move deeper into the pore. BHAs are helpful for thick or coarse regrowth, frequent or stubborn ingrowns, and congested follicles. BHAs also have calming, anti-inflammatory properties, which can be beneficial for skin that tends to get irritated.

How often you exfoliate depends on your skin and how it responds. Some skin types do well with exfoliation 2-3 times per week, while others may need less. Pay attention to how your skin feels, redness, sensitivity, or irritation are signs to scale back. Exfoliation should support the skin, not stress it, so adjusting frequency based on comfort and response is key.

Hydration helps keep the skin balanced and comfortable as it heals. When the skin is nourished and supported, it's less likely to become irritated or trap hair beneath the surface. Applying a light non-comedogenic moisturizer or oil regularly, particularly after exfoliation, helps maintain smoothness between appointments.
