Sugaring is a method of hair removal that dates back to the 1900 BC time period and is considered an ancient Egyptian art. It involves using a paste made of sugar, water, and citric acid to remove hair from the root. The sugar paste is applied in the opposite direction of the hair growth and then quickly flicked off of the skin in the direction of hair growth; eliminating breakage and ingrown hairs. Sugar paste is relatively warm, adheres only to the hair and dead skin, and can remove hair as short as 1/4 of an inch long.
Exfoliation: Gently exfoliate within the week of your appointment using a scrub or mitt. This helps remove dead skin cells, allowing the sugar paste to adhere better to the hair.
Hair Length: For optimal results, hair should be about 1/4 of an inch long. If the hair is too short, the sugar may not grab it properly. If you have shaved, please wait at least 2 weeks to allow the hair to grow long enough.
Avoid Lotions or Oils: Do not apply lotions, oils, or deodorant to the area on the day of the appointment, as these can interfere with the sugar paste’s effectiveness.
Pain Management: If you are concerned about the pain, feel free to take pain relievers like ibuprofen or tylenol 30 minutes before the appointment to minimize discomfort.
No Sun Exposure: Avoid sun exposure or tanning before the appointment to prevent irritation.
Maintenance is anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks, but it varies by individual as it is dependent on your hair growth cycle.
Pretty much all parts, from the hair on your face down to the hair on your toes.
The scalp, beard, mustache, inner ears, and nostrils cannot be sugared.
Yes. A variety of sugaring services are available for men, with the only exception being the Egyptian (male Brazilian), which is not currently offered. The difference is that a women's Brazilian focuses on removing all hair from female anatomy, while the Egyptian service is the equivalent for male anatomy, requiring a different technique and approach. Other studios that specialize in this service may refer to it as a Manzilian, Brozilian, or simply Brazilian (specifying that it includes the scrotum/male anatomy).
Sugaring is often considered less painful than traditional waxing, but some discomfort is normal, especially for first-time clients or when treating more sensitive areas. The sensation feels like a quick sting or tug and fades almost immediately. The great thing about sugaring is that it removes hair from the root, so results last much longer than shaving, and hair often grows back softer and finer over time. Many clients also find that with consistency, each appointment feels easier and more comfortable.
It is not recommended to shave between sugaring appointments, as doing so can disrupt the hair growth cycle and diminish the long-term benefits of sugaring. Shaving cuts the hair at the surface of the skin, creating a blunt tip that can lead to uneven regrowth.
When you shave between appointments, hairs begin to grow back at different rates and stages, resulting in a less effective sugaring session. For optimal results and smoother skin over time, it's best to allow the hair to grow naturally between visits.
New clients will typically have tiny 'stubs' of hair leftover and may notice quicker regrowth because some hairs were under the skin or too short to be extracted. It usually takes several sessions to be completely hair free in the days and weeks following the appointment. Keep in mind that there are also a few factors that influence hair growth cycles such as genetics, age, hormones, and environmental factors.
Naturally, your hair is always in different phases of the hair growth cycle. Which is why some hairs will be too short to remove during the first sugaring appointment, others may not have even pushed through the surface of the skin, and yet some may be past the growth phase and are ready to fall out.
There are 3 phases of the hair growth cycle. The first one is the Anagen phase and it is the active growth phase. During this phase, nourishment of the hair follicle via blood supply enables new hair growth. The second one is the Catagen phase. This is a transitional phase where the hair growth slows down and the hair follicles detach from the blood supply. While the hair is no longer actively growing, it remains anchored in the hair follicle. This period is short, lasting 2 to 4 weeks on average. The Telogen phase is the final phase where the hair is at rest. The old hair sheds, creating space for new hair growth to begin. So any hairs that have not made it past the surface of the skin or are not at least 1/4 of an inch long will not be removed.
Ingrown hairs happen when a hair grows back into the skin instead of up to the surface, which can cause little bumps, redness, or irritation. Because sugaring removes hair in the direction of growth and doesn't stick to live skin cells, it can actually help reduce the chances of ingrowns compared to shaving or waxing.
After your appointment, the best way to prevent ingrowns is by following your aftercare: exfoliate 2 to 3 times a week and keep the skin hydrated daily with a gentle moisturizer. Staying consistent with your sugaring appointments every 4-6 weeks also helps, since the hair grows back softer and finer over time, making it less likely to curl under the skin.
For the pubic area, it's best to use a non-comedogenic moisturizer or a lightweight oil such as jojoba oil to protect the skin barrier without clogging pores. Ingrown concentrates or serums can also be used to spot treat any stubborn bumps.
Yes. You’re still welcome to get sugared during your period- just be sure to wear a tampon, menstrual cup, or disc so the service can be performed. Please keep in mind that your skin may be more sensitive during this time, which could result in increased discomfort during the appointment.
Yes. Sugaring is considered safe during pregnancy. After giving birth, it is generally recommended to wait 1 to 3 months before resuming sugaring services, depending on individual healing and comfort levels.
The duration of your appointment depends on the area being sugared, the amount of hair, and your hair type. Thicker or denser hair may require additional time to ensure the service is thorough and effective. If you believe you have coarse or dense hair, please be sure to select the appropriate service when booking. This helps ensure that enough time is scheduled to complete your appointment with care and precision.
Current operating hours are Saturdays from 10am - 4pm and Sundays from 11pm - 6pm. Please note that hours displayed on Google may not reflect the most recent updates. The schedule listed on the website and booking software is always accurate and up to date.
