Contraindications

If you are taking particular medications or any treatments that thin your skin or cause photosensitivity, please consult with your doctor before coming in for an appointment. There are risks while getting sugared on particular medications, such as lifted skin and unwanted pigmentation.

• Lifted Skin is when the top layer of your skin is fully removed. If you are using medications or undergoing any treatments that may cause thinning of the skin, please wait an adequate amount of time before coming in for an appointment.
• Unwanted Pigmentation could be in the form of a change of color, new spots, or new pigmentations appearing on the skin. If necessary, you may be asked to bring in a doctor's note stating that it is safe for you to get sugared.

Your skin may lift if you are using the following:

• Accutane
• Antibiotics
• Retin-A, Retinol, Retinoid
• Prescription blood thinners 
• Prescription steroids 
• Some anti-aging products

Your skin may lift if you have:

• Diabetes
• Sun burned skin
• Very sensitive skin
• History of fever blisters or cold sores
• Psoriasis, eczema, or other chronic skin diseases

• If you've been on Accutane, please wait at least 9 months after being off of the medication before coming in for an appointment. Accutane chemically alters the skin, and if you were to get a service, your skin would likely lift. 
• If you've been on Antibiotics, please consult with your doctor to determine when you can come in for an appointment. 
• If you've been using any form of Retinol, please wait at least 48 hours after your last use before coming in.
• If you've received Laser Hair Removal treatments, please wait at least 2 weeks. Depending on the strength of the treatments, you may need to wait longer. If you've waited an adequate amount of time, feel free to come in for a consultation to speak with your sugarist and allow them to see how your skin looks to determine whether or not it is safe to sugar.
